  • Operational Knowledge: Develop a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine to be used along with other relevant information sources.
  • Component Recognition: Learn to locate, identify, and explain the functions of the machine's major components.
  • Control Familiarity: Understand and explain the functions of the steering, driving, and braking controls.
  • Pre-operational Checks: Conduct all required pre-operational checks in line with manufacturer’s guidelines and legislative requirements.
  • Safe Operation: Master the techniques for safely mounting and dismounting the machine, starting and stopping the engine, and safely operating the machine in various conditions.
  • Machine Manoeuvring: Configure and manoeuvre the machine safely, both laden and unladen, across different terrains including rough ground and inclines, in both open and confined spaces.
  • Safety Procedures: Perform all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Task Configuration: Position the machine at the work area and prepare it to perform lifting and load handling tasks.
  • Load Handling: Execute lifting and load handling operations, transferring loads accurately and safely at different locations.

Entry Requirements

Are there any entry requirements for the NPORS Telehandler course?

For the NPORS Telehandler course, all learners are required to submit supporting documentation along with their application. This includes proof of passing the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test within the two years preceding their application. Additionally, learners must demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English to fully engage with and benefit from the training.

The training duration is tailored based on the learner’s experience level. Those new to the field or with limited experience will receive comprehensive training, while experienced operators have the option of a one-day Experienced Worker Assessment (Test Only).

How is the NPORS Telescopic Handler course assessed?

  • Verbal Questions: To deepen the evaluation, verbal questions may be utilized to assess the candidate’s understanding of specific topics or scenarios.

Practical Assessment:

  • Practical Demonstration: Candidates must demonstrate their proficiency in operating a telehandler. This involves conducting pre-operational checks, managing the machine under various conditions, and applying necessary safety measures.
  • Observation: An assessor monitors the candidates during practical tasks to ensure they adhere to proper procedures and display the essential skills and competencies.

Certification

  • Existing NPORS Card Holders Without (S)NVQ:

  Operators without the required (S)NVQ qualifications will be issued a Trained Operator card, valid for two years. During this period, they are expected to enroll in and successfully complete the relevant (S)NVQ for the categories of plant equipment listed on their card.

  • Existing NPORS Card Holders With (S)NVQ:

  Operators holding the necessary (S)NVQ qualifications will receive a
