N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG & OH Build Training - Novice

Build the Future of Fibre: Above and Below Ground

What is the N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build Training - Novice course?

The N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic Underground (UG) and Overhead (OH) Build Training - Novice course is a comprehensive 5-day program designed for engineers and contractors working on the Openreach network. It focuses on equipping participants with the essential skills required for the end-to-end provision and installation of Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) networks, encompassing both underground and overhead components. The training ensures adherence to current Openreach working practices and quality standards.

Course Content

What can I expect from the One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build Training – Novice training course?

Participants can expect a blend of theoretical instruction and practical hands-on experience covering various aspects of FTTP network installation. The course is divided into two main parts:

Part One: Underground Network Build

  • Installing No Drill brackets and Mobra
  • Mounting a large node on Mobra
  • Introducing COF600 into the large node and looping through
  • Introducing 4/7BFT
  • Mounting an underground CBT on a pivot arm/Mobra and introducing the tail into the large node
  • Introducing COF215 to feed small/medium nodes
  • Installing 2 x 32 splitters
  • Completing the required splicing

Part Two: Overhead Network Build

  • Installing small/medium nodes temporarily on poles
  • Introducing COF215 feed into small/medium nodes and looping through
  • Mounting overhead CBTs on poles and introducing tails into small/medium nodes
  • Installing 2 x 32 splitters
  • Erecting spans of COF215 using correct clamps and routing through ELM
  • Erecting spans of COF250 using correct clamps and anti-oscillation twists
  • Completing the required splicing

Additionally, participants will learn to perform light source testing at correct CBT ports to ensure network integrity.

Entry Requirements

Are there any entry requirements for the N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build Training - Novice course?

Yes, to book onto the N23 course, learners are generally required to have the following prerequisites:

These certifications ensure that participants possess a foundational understanding of safety and operational procedures necessary for working in both underground and overhead network environments.

Assessment

The assessment comprises two components:

  1. Written Questionnaire: A 90-minute test designed to evaluate the participant's theoretical knowledge of FTTP network build practices.
  2. Practical Assessment: A 6-hour hands-on evaluation where participants demonstrate their ability to perform tasks such as installing nodes, mounting CBTs, introducing various cables, installing splitters, and completing splicing for both underground and overhead network builds. These practical exercises are conducted under supervision to assess competency in real-world scenarios.

Certification

Upon successful completion of both the written and practical assessments, learners will be awarded an Openreach approved ATS Group Certificate detailing N23 – One Fibre Network Build. This certification is recognised within the telecommunications industry and validates the individual's capability to perform FTTP strategic underground and overhead build tasks to Openreach's standards.
