What is the SA024 Pole Top Rescue course?

This accreditation provides learners with the necessary information to rescue individuals who become suspended on a telecommunication pole while working at height. The course covers rescue operations performed by climbing the pole and using a Mobile Elevating Platform (MEWP), ensuring that participants can carry out such tasks safely and effectively. 

Course Content

The course encompasses both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including:

  • Selecting and using personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for rescue operations.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the SA024 Pole Top Rescue course, candidates must:

  • Be over the age of 18.
  • Hold the SA001 Overhead Safety qualification.
  • Possess an accredited qualification to operate MEWPs.

These prerequisites ensure that all participants have a foundational understanding of overhead safety and the operation of relevant equipment, which is critical for the effective and safe execution of pole top rescues. 

Assessment

Assessment for the SA024 course includes:

  • Practical Assessment: Participants must demonstrate their ability to perform rescue operations, showcasing their proficiency in using equipment and executing rescue techniques.
  • Theory Assessment: A written test, typically composed of multiple-choice questions, evaluates the participant's understanding of the theoretical aspects of pole top rescue.

A minimum pass mark is required to successfully complete the course and obtain certification. 

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Smart Awards certificate in Pole Top Rescue, valid for three years. To maintain certification, individuals must retake the course or attend a refresher course before the certificate's expiration.
