What is the Youth Mental Health Champion Course?

A one‑day MHFA England‑accredited, Youth Mental Health Champion, training designed to raise awareness of mental health challenges in young people aged 8-18. You’ll gain a foundational understanding of common conditions, learn a basic Mental Health First Aid action plan, and cover sensitive topics such as suicide. The course mixes presentations, videos, case studies, and group discussions to deliver an accessible and engaging experience.

Course Content

What can I expect from the Youth Mental Health Champion training course?

Including facilitated discussions, workshop activities, videos, and real-life case studies, the course content includes:

  • Mental health and mental ill health in young people
  • The MHFA action plan: basic intervention steps
  • Recognising depression, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, psychosis, and more 
  • A short, sensitive session on suicide awareness

Structured sessions cover stigma, discrimination, resilience, and recovery

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements for the Youth Mental Health Champion course?

There are no formal prerequisites, this course is ideal for anyone who lives or works with 8–18 year olds and wants to become more confident supporting their mental wellbeing.

Assessment

Learning is assessed through interactive engagement during group work, reflections, and real-world scenarios. The course includes practical exercises and role-plays, there's no written exam.
