SA002R Underground Safety Refresher

The SA002R Underground Safety Refresher course, accredited by Smart Awards, is specifically aimed at individuals who have previously completed the SA002 training and need to refresh their knowledge and skills. This refresher course is crucial for maintaining the ability to work safely in telecommunications or similar utility environments, such as fibre network installation and underground surveys. It focuses on re-testing the knowledge, skills, and understanding of the hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on or in proximity to underground structures and operational buildings.

What can I expect from the SA002R Underground Safety Refresher Course?

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

• Work safely with renewed confidence.
• Carry out gas testing safely.
• Demonstrate safe methods for lifting covers before working underground.
• Apply relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.
• Recognise the hazards of working in underground chambers or structures.
• Perform cover lifting safely.

This refresher course is available to anyone over the age of 16 who has previously completed the SA002 course. While there are no barriers that restrict access or progression, it is expected that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with the assessment.

The SA002 Underground Safety Course is assessed through:

• Multiple-Choice Theory Test: This test evaluates delegates' understanding of underground safety procedures, gas testing, and cover lifting techniques.
• Practical Exercises: Delegates will demonstrate their ability to apply safe working practices when accessing and working in underground structures, including performing gas testing and lifting covers safely.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Mandatory PPE for the SA002 Underground Safety Course includes:

• Safety Boots
• Safety Helmet
• Hi-Visibility Vest (Long Sleeve)
• Appropriate Gloves
• Clothing suitable for inclement weather (recommended)

Please note: Without the correct PPE, delegates may be refused entry to the course, and charges will still apply.

Participants who successfully complete all necessary units of the refresher course will be awarded a full accreditation certificate for Smart Awards SA002R Underground Safety Refresher. This certification ensures that the individual’s qualification in underground safety practices remains current and valid.
