SA016 Core Drilling

Advance Your Skills in Telecommunications Jointing Chamber Core Drilling

What is the SA016 Core Drilling course?

The SA016 Core Drilling course is a Smart Awards accredited training programme designed to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform core drilling into telecommunications jointing chambers safely and in compliance with industry standards.

Course Content

What can I expect from the SA016 Core Drilling training course?

Learners can anticipate a blend of theoretical instruction and practical application during this one-day course. Key components include:

  • Understanding Regulations and Legislation: Gaining knowledge of the processes, regulations, and legislation associated with working safely while core drilling into modular, brick, and concrete underground chambers.
  • Equipment and Materials: Learning about the procedures, tools, equipment, and materials required for core drilling into various types of underground chambers.
  • Core Drilling Techniques: Developing the ability to perform core drilling tasks effectively and safely on modular, brick, and concrete underground chambers.

Entry Requirements

Learners are required to meet the following prerequisites before enrolling in the SA016 Core Drilling course:

Mandatory Safety Accreditations:

  • SA006 Safe Working in Civils: Demonstrates the learner's understanding of safety protocols related to civil engineering works within the telecommunications sector.
  • SA002 Underground Safety: Provides knowledge on identifying hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on or in proximity to underground structures and operational buildings.

Mandatory NRSWA Qualifications:

  • Unit LA (Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus): Ensures competency in detecting and avoiding underground utilities.
  • Unit O1 (Signing, Lighting, and Guarding): Covers the basics of setting up and maintaining safety measures for street works.
  • Unit O2 (Excavation in the Highway): Focuses on safe excavation practices in public highways.
  • Unit O3 (Reinstatement of the Highway): Teaches methods for restoring highways after excavation.
  • The NRSWA Operatives course covers all of these units.

Note: It is expected that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with both the theory and practical assessments.

Assessment

The assessment process evaluates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills:

  • Theoretical Assessment: Learners will complete a written questionnaire designed to assess their understanding of core drilling practices, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Practical Assessment: Learners will undertake hands-on core drilling tasks within a controlled environment. This assessment evaluates their ability to apply learned techniques, adhere to safety protocols, and meet the established quality standards during actual drilling scenarios.

Certification

Upon successful completion of both the theoretical and practical assessments, learners will be awarded a Smart Awards certificate for SA016 Core Drilling. This certification is valid for three years and serves as formal recognition of the individual's competency in performing core drilling into telecommunications jointing chambers, enhancing their professional credentials and expanding their career opportunities in the telecommunications and utilities sectors.
